I am the proud mother of two beautiful, energetic, and now teenage boys. I was happy with my decision to be at home with our boys, without the added pressures of full time work. However, I became restless when my eldest started school and my youngest- kindy/preschool. I began toying with the idea of a part time job. However, having had previous experience with running a business from home, I felt that I again wanted the freedom of working from home as I enjoyed the flexibility of being able to visit the children’s school for concerts, sports days and other special events.
After receiving yet another drawing from my son (who insisted that this one was special and I should keep it), it was placed with pride on the fridge for all to see - until the next drawing, and then delegated it to the ever-growing pile of ‘must keeps’ in the cupboard (I'm a fantastic hoarder). I started thinking that there had to be a better way to preserve their precious drawings. This thought was the initial inception of the idea of “kids in time”.
I have never previously been able to sew, yet I began looking at computerized embroidery machines and asking questions that surprised everyone - including myself. No-one, apart from my immediate family knew of the developing idea. A machine was purchased and researching developing the idea began. My business has now expanded to the point that I have purchased two semi-industrial machines that keep me working the hours that I want.Through Sew Original, I have been inundated with requests for the “business” side of embroidery.Requests from families who owned their own businesses, schools and other such industries made me rethink the depth the business could go.So as to keep all of my customers happy—both Mums and Dads—I have broadened my horizons and have started a new sideline business to cope with the demand of the business world - Sew Cool Embroidery.
On a further step into what I do, and outside the realm of embroidery, I have begun tutoring children in the concepts of reading and writing correctly. This came about due to my son, Mitch being diagnosed with dyslexia and dysgraphia. We came to the conclusion that the school could not/would not teach Mitch the correct way that he needed to learn how to read and write. We did not want him to fall any further behind, and so after many hours of research into various methods on the best way for him to learn, we purchased a system from America and I began tutoring Mitch from home. The system was originally designed to help teach illiterate adults to read and write, but was found to aid dyslexic people as well.
It was so successful that I had numerous parents approach me to help their children who also, just didn't seem "to get it", and so a new business venture was conceived:

I now teach students before and after school, and the feedback has been amazing! The lightbulb is beginning to burn bright for these children. They now "get it"!
